Safety is part of how every job is planned, driven and delivered. Artesian & Solway Water operates a structured health and safety system for bulk water transport, commercial sites, civil projects, public roads and customer properties.
All drivers hold current Site Safe cards and have an active training and induction plan. Our controls combine competent people, documented processes, vehicle technology, fatigue monitoring, drug and alcohol management, maintenance and continuous learning.

Vehicle Compliance, Maintenance & Monitoring
A safe delivery depends on both the driver and the vehicle. Our fleet controls combine daily checks, planned servicing, defect escalation and electronic oversight.
Pre-start inspections
Drivers check the vehicle, tyres, lights, tanker equipment, hoses, fittings, safety equipment and visible defects before work.
Planned maintenance
Servicing and repairs are completed through established heavy-vehicle maintenance providers, with defects addressed according to risk.
Driver licence monitoring
Driver-licence status is monitored using NZTA Driver Check/TORO alongside internal licence and training records.
Certificate controls
COF, registration, RUC and other vehicle requirements are monitored as part of fleet administration.
Emergency equipment
Trucks carry fire extinguishers and first-aid equipment, with additional site equipment provided where required.
Event information

Does every driver have a training and induction plan?
Yes. Every driver has a current training and induction plan covering company requirements, vehicles, tanker equipment, delivery tasks and any additional development or site needs.
Do you have a drug and alcohol policy?
Yes. A formal drug and alcohol policy forms part of our fitness-for-work system, supported by independent specialist services through TDDA. Current controlled copies are available to commercial customers on request.
How do you manage driver fatigue?
Controls include driver planning and reporting, EROAD oversight, in-cab feedback and EROAD Clarity Edge AI cameras that provide proactive visibility of fatigue and driving-risk events.
Can drivers complete site-specific inductions?
Yes. Drivers complete customer, principal-contractor and project inductions where required and follow site rules, permit systems and PPE standards relevant to the job.
Do you prepare JSAs or site risk assessments?
Yes. Non-routine or higher-risk work can be supported by job safety analysis and site-specific risk documentation, including customer formats where agreed before mobilisation.
What PPE do drivers carry?
Baseline PPE includes high-visibility clothing and safety footwear. Additional equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection or arc-rated clothing is used where the site or task requires it.
Can you provide insurance and contractor documentation?
Yes. Procurement teams can request current policies, insurance certificates, training information, Site Safe evidence and other relevant contractor documentation by emailing info@artesianwater.net.nz.
How are incidents and near misses managed?
Drivers report incidents, near misses and hazards. Events are reviewed, corrective actions are assigned and relevant learnings are communicated through coaching, toolbox discussions and system updates.
